Chief Manning was hired in May of 2011 and was tasked with the responsibility of re-establishing the West Buechel Police Department. He previously served the Louisville Police Department / Louisville Metro Police Department for twenty (20) years where he retired as a Lieutenant in 2009.
While with the Louisville Police Department Chief Manning served in the 1st and 2nd Districts, Intelligence, and in the Chief’s Office under Staff Services and as the Assistant to the Commander of Operations. After merger of government Chief Manning was asked to stay in the Chief’s Office serving as the Assistant to the Chief of Staff. While in this position Chief Manning was approached by the Chief and the Chief of Staff in reference to building the new Community Relations Unit for the Police Department. Chief Manning then became the Commander of this Unit and built it up to an award winning unit. Under his command the 574-LMPD Line was born, Louisville’s Most Wanted and Louisville Law & Order where established and taken to new levels. New Citizens Police Academies where born for both the Youth and the Latino Community. The Police Athletic/Activities League was taken to a new level. And several other programs reached new heights.
During his time as a Commanding Officer two (2) of Chief Manning’s Units received the “Meritorious Unit Citation” and he himself was nominated for the “Exceptional Merit Award”. Chief Manning did receive a Bell Award and Blue Angel Award for his service in the community during his tenure.
Chief Manning is looking forward to bringing these same qualities and experience to the newly re-established West Buechel Police Department. You can reach Chief Manning at 502-459-4401 or by email at j.manning@westbuechelky.gov.
